어제 프리젠테이션을 마치고 나서, 도저히 마우스를 다시 잡을 기운도 없고,
자극도 좀 필요하고 해서, 간만에 Alias 의 세미나를 다녀왔습니다.
대학원에 가기전까지 꾹 참고 영어공부만 하자고 다짐했던 게 이번엔 좀 효력을 발휘했는지, 여러사람들과 좀 더 편하게 이런저런 얘기를 할 수 있었습니다.
물론, 다음주에 열릴 UK CGI FESTIVAL 이 훨씬 기대되기는 합니다만, 오늘 이곳에 안갔으면 Chris Landreth도 못 만났을거고, 그와 얘기도 못 나누었을거고, 그와 사진도 찍지 못했을 것입니다. 지금도 그와 함께 얘기했던 흥분이 쉽게 가시지 않습니다.
Chris Landreth. 조용하고, 수없이 진행해 봤을 세미나임에도 불구하고 목소리가 떨렸으며, 수줍어하기까지 했습니다. Ryan의 상영뒤에는 그가 다시 단상에 올라갈때까지, 박수소리가 끊이지 않았습니다. 그가 왜 Ryan 을 만들었는지, 우리에게 어떤 이야기를 들려주고 싶었는지, 이제 확실히 알 수 있습니다. Ryan 을 몇 번이나 봤지만, Ryan 보다 훨씬 비참하게 사라져갔을 수많은 애니메이터들이 머리속에 사정없이 떠올랐기 때문에, 개인적으로 그리 좋은 점수를 주지 않았던 게 사실이었습니다. 하지만, 그가 떨리는 목소리로 직접 들려주는 Ryan의 얘기를 듣고 있을때쯤엔 저를 포함한 모두가 숙연했습니다.
한명의 작가가 또 다른 작가를 진정으로 이해하려고 노력하고 그걸 자신의 작품으로 승화시킨 결과는 참으로 슬프고 아름다웠습니다. 적어도 오늘 다시 본 Ryan 은 그랬습니다. 그리고 Chris Landreth는 Ryan의 앞에 혹시, 그와 같은 인생을 살지도 모르는 또 한 명의 조용한 예술가였습니다.
